Meet Senior Consultant, Matt Percival

Matt Percival, who has been with LBB as a consultant for three years, recently joined our Major Projects team. Matt’s combination of technical knowledge and experience offers clients a 360-degree view of their projects, ensuring insurance needs are met from the conceptual phase to completion.

Matt’s dedication to providing tailored insurance coverage stems from his academic background and membership of the Chartered Insurance Institute. His commitment to problem-solving and expertise shines through in his proven track record, where he has successfully overcome challenges ranging from meeting both A-Rating standards and housing association demands, to sourcing tailored warranty solutions for higher-risk schemes.

Matt started his career studying construction and holds an HNC in Construction Management which proved valuable in his time serving as a technical underwriter. He also and has achieved CII status through the Chartered Insurance Institute.

“With a background in the construction sector, and experience as an underwriter, I have an in-depth understanding of defects prevention and their underlying causes.” Matt comments, “I provide tailored construction insurance solutions that go beyond surface-level problem identification to uncover the roots of issues.”

“My training, and my client experience, bolster my ability to understand and meet clients’ unique demands, ensuring they receive comprehensive construction insurance solutions that align perfectly with their project,” Matt adds.

Proven problem-solving and adaptability

Matt’s professional journey is marked by numerous instances where his problem-solving skills and adaptability have been rigorously tested and proven, offering clients a reliable partnership that effectively tackles challenges head-on.

“Securing the correct product for the building use requirement is key, and a broker can help navigate that for you. I assisted a London-based developer who previously used a Professional Consultant Certificate (PCC) on advice from another broker for their developments and was unaware of the differences from a structural warranty. I was able to advise on the distinctions and applications of each product,” Matt shared.

“We discussed two upcoming projects, with build costs of approximately £15 million and £6 million, which were due to commence in the coming weeks. Both of these developments were of a build-to-sell nature, and the developer would likely face issues selling these units with a PCC in place—potentially leaving them with unsellable assets. After explaining the importance of lender acceptance, I secured A-rated warranty terms within weeks, ensuring smooth instruction before construction began.”

This experience highlights Matt’s ability to understand complex client needs, provide expert advice, and secure timely solutions that align with industry standards, ultimately safeguarding his clients’ investments and facilitating successful project outcomes.
